JANUARY 2020
We have a roof on, two completed bathrooms that actually flush with running water, and almost all of the walls have been smoothed out! We still have some work to do, but we theoretically can use the building for consultations right now! Â We continue to work on securing grants and solicit more funds so that we can finish the clinic. Our next step will be adding windows, doors, and flooring.

We finally have a roof!

NOVEMBER 2019
We just had two generous donors! One who donated an end of the year donation for us to start building the wall around the clinic! This is so important because we will not be able to leave anything at the clinic until there is a secure wall up. Another donation was received from a group coming down in January to serve with us! They are going to help us finish the bathrooms in the clinic! We are so thankful for everyone that has donated over the year! We honestly would not be this far along without all of your help!

AUGUST 2019
From the two mission appeals and other donations we were able to raise $40,000. I cannot even begin to describe how thankful I am. We had our meeting with the engineer, and we are going to be able to raise the roof of this clinic! As soon as this phase is completed, we will be able to use the building. It will not be anything pretty, but we will have an actual building that we can run consultations and be sheltered from the sun and the rain!
MAY 2019
One of the biggest changes is that we have decided to make a basement. Yes, you heard me... a basement. I had no idea this was even possible! The basement will have three rooms, a bathroom, and a storage space. The land that we have for the clinic is on a slight hill, so the back portion of the clinic is already set for a basement. Instead of getting materials brought up the mountain to backfill the area we will be utilizing the space! The area will be a great place for volunteers to stay and will give us a lot of room to store extra materials. We have continued to look for other ways to raise money for the clinic. Building Bridges of Hope was chosen this year for the Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids 2019 Mission Appeal, so I will be home talking at three different parishes, and all the funds raised will go towards the construction of the clinic. I have been working on writing grants and looking for other fundraising opportunities. It still seems like this is a never-ending project, but we are so much further than I thought we would be! All in God’s timing!
APRIL 2019
In March, we held a medical clinic in Rosa la Piedra next to our construction site. With the help of Aquinas College, we saw nearly 100 patients! At this same clinic, we had the pleasure of meeting Antonio, one of the owners of the large avocado farms in the mountain (MACAPI). He stayed and participated in the clinic with us to learn all about our project. He loved what we are doing and is willing to help us! For the remainder of the project he has agreed to transport the majority of the materials up the mountain for us! This is a huge blessing! The money that was raised from Rockhurst University, the Knights of Columbus from St. Pius X, and some other donors, we were able to send 4,000 blocks up the mountain, sand, gravel, and continue construction in late March!

MARCH 2019
Many of you know about the t-shirt sale. We raised $5,815! INCREDIBLE! On top of that the Knights of Columbus from Pinckney donated money to the clinic. This gave us more than $6,000 to continue construction in the beginning of May. We were able to get the house side of the medical center built up to the roof, and the clinic side completed to the level of the floor with the help of MACAPI transporting materials up the mountain.
FEBRUARY 2019
In January, for the first time my dad and brother Alex came to spend a week here with me!! It was amazing!! I was so happy to be able to share with them my home and let them see first hand what I do. It is always so difficult to explain to people what I do, and why I love it. The two of them, and John, an engineer from the states, spent the entire week working up in the mountain on the construction of the clinic. They moved dirt, dug holes, laid cement, and put up blocks! The same week also happened to be one of our busiest weeks, because we had a group of 27 volunteers here! Sadly, I was not able to spend as much time as I would have liked with them. One of the best days though was when they were up at the construction site, and our group was next to them running a medical clinic. They were able to see how we run medical clinics while they were up in the mountain working! I am so grateful that the three of them took time away from their busy schedules at home to come help.

JANUARY 2019
The clinic that I have been talking about is well on its way! December 18th, 2018, we began! Honestly it was all God’s doing! Let me back up. I arrived back in the Dominican Republic on December 16th and went up the mountain December 17th to help run one of our mobile medical clinics in Rosa La Piedra. This same day we were able to bring up the engineer for the project. He got the opportunity to see and hear our vision for the project. A man from
Rosa La Piedra named Macho, donated the land to us. That very same day, we asked a couple of the men from the community to begin clearing the land. Further up the mountain they were fixing the road. They offered to clear the rest of our land for us with their machines and fix the road up to the clinic!! This made it possible to get all of the trucks up the mountain with the materials!! We were so blessed!

DECEMBER 2018
Before we began construction on our clinic we met with the Bishop of San Juan to tell him our plans for the clinic! I was so nervous going into this meeting. I had no idea what he was going to say. All I really wanted was for him to like the idea. The meeting went great! He gave us his blessing.
