Family Time

Writer: Kailey StutzkyKailey Stutzky

This summer I was in Michigan for a little over 3 weeks! It was fantastic. I spent a week up north with my entire family, then I caught up with some friends, and just relaxed! It was a much needed vacation. With the quarantine, I was beginning to go a little stir crazy from being alone. It was nice to be around people!

I want to share some very exciting news! While I was home, BBOH held an online fundraiser for the clinic in Rosa la Piedra. I AM BLOWN away!! We raised enough money to completely tile all of the floors and buy and install all of the windows and doors on the clinic side!! It is so exciting to see all of this come together! Thank you to everyone who has supported this project. It means so much to me!

I recently returned to the Dominican. We still have a curfew. On the weekdays, the curfew is 7pm and on the weekends it is 5pm. Hopefully, all of this will slowly change over time, but we will see.

Hurricane season is upon us, and we have been getting a lot of strong winds and rain.Tropical storm Laura just blew through and took the roof right off of our mission house in Palo Saco! Thank God we did not have any groups here during this time. We have begun repairing the roof in the house even though I was enjoying all of the natural sunlight inside. 😜 All things considered, the storm did very minimal damage to San Juan and Elias Pina.

Back in May, the Carliles had to go back to Michigan unexpectedly, and they left me to care for their puppy Zellie. My dog Luna and Zellie became best of friends during this time. Luna and I brought Zellie to the capital last week to send her stateside so that she could be with her family. We miss her a lot but are looking forward to when the Carliles can come to the DR!

Sadly, we are still not able to do medical clinics up in the mountain due to the restrictions set in place by public health. We are hoping that with the new change of government that happened August 16th, we will soon be allowed to resume the medical clinics.

For the next two months or so I will have a roommate. Her name is Hannah. She is looking into ministry opportunities here in San Juan. It has been very nice having someone else living in the house with me!

Today, we sat down as a team and talked with the engineer about a game plan for this next phase of construction of the clinic!! VERY EXCITING!! They will be going up the mountain hopefully this week to begin again!! I will be updating all of you again soon and will include pictures of the progress of the clinic!!!

Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we work to complete the inside of the clinic.

  • For the safety of the workers

  • For the health of the Haitians and Dominicans that live in the mountain area

  • For mine and our teams health and focus as we continue to push for health care in this impoverished area

  • For God to continue to open my eyes and ears to His work that He wants me to accomplish
