AUGUST SERVICE TEAM

At the beginning of August, my good friend Cassie and her husband Parker brought a group of volunteers to serve with us. They spent the week doing elderly visits, medical clinics, and visiting the children at the Missionaries of Charity. The week was super busy and very productive!

VACATION IN MICHIGAN

I flew back to Grand Rapids on August 6 for some much needed vacation time. I was able to catch up with a lot of friends when I was home and attend a wedding shower for my sister Paige who is getting married at the end of October. From the wedding shower, I drove up with my family to spend a week at a cottage on a lake. We had an amazing time making wonderful memories.

DENGUE FEVER

I made my way back to the DR at the end of August! Mid September I was one of many people in the Dominican Republic who contracted Dengue Fever (comes from a mosquito). On Sunday, September 17, I had a fever that I did not think much about until I could not bring the fever down. I had a fever of 104 for about 5 days and was hospitalized. I am very thankful for all of the friends who took care of me. My mother came down to take care of me when she heard how serious it was. My white blood cell count was down to 1.1 and my platelets were down to 30. My mom was able to help me with the nausea, headaches, and lack of appetite. After I was discharged from the hospital I continued my recovery in my home in San Juan. Fortunately, I was able to fly to my home in Michigan on September 30, and I am now resting and regaining my strength to attend my sister’s wedding on October 27. My mom was very excited to have met all of my friends in San Juan and especially my dogs Luna and Coco.

SEPTEMBER SERVICE TEAM

During the week that I was recovering from Dengue, we had another team of volunteers led by Jasmin who is one of our BBOH Ambassadors. They were able to run many medical clinics, work in the pharmacy, and do elderly visits. It was a huge success!I am so grateful for our long term volunteer Olivia for filling in for me along with my dear friend Maritza. I was grateful that my mom and I were able to fly out with them on Saturday and hear about all of their experiences.

VEHICLE

My search for a vehicle was postponed because of being so sick with Dengue. I am looking forward to finding a vehicle when I get back to the Dominican Republic in November.

PRAYER INTENTIONS

-For my health: headaches to subside, increase energy for when I return in November

-Continued prayers for Adam, Jess and children

-Successful negotiation for the right vehicle
